The community co-culture may include work, school, friends, and romantic relationships, but these may occur outside the community. The chances of having close, personal interactions with those different from you, whether in age, physical ability, gender, ethnicity, class, religion, race or nationality, are increasing daily. Such social relationships help you learn about the world, break stereotypes, and acquire new skills. Community groups, as they relate to structures, are designed to serve the social needs of participants. All social groups should serve the social needs of their participants while having norms associated with belonging

Some social groups are task-oriented. They serve to get something specific accomplished. Such groups often have problem-solving and decision-making goals. Decision making, of course, occurs within the process of problem solving whenever alternatives emerge and choices must be made. When a group is designated as a “decision-making group”, its task is recommending action, making clear choices among several possibilities. The social information sharing group can be found in corporations, schools, churches, families, and service clubs. Whenever people meet to be informed and to inform others, to express themselves and listen to others, or to give assistance, to clarify goals, or to establish and maintain relationships, information sharing becomes a purpose. In either task-oriented or information-sharing groups, there is a closely interrelated social dimension. The degree to which members concern themselves with the task or with information sharing affects the social interaction of the group.

Although everyone has needs that will vary with personality and moods, when we seek out others; we are trying to meet our interpersonal needs: pleasure, affection, inclusion, escape, relaxation, control, health, or cyber motivation. As social structures, communities are co-cultures and are part of social relationships in culture and communities either to be task-oriented or to share information. One way to contrast a group of cultures to another group of cultures is to use the dimension of power distance and social equality. As we recognize the richness of many cultues and acknowledge the complexity of the issues facing the global community, people in communities are called to understand many kinds of communication as together we seek to create a public language where misunderstandings are minimized.
